State Farm Center, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign
The proud tradition of Big Ten basketball at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign includes superior scouting and player development, the iconic State Farm Center, and of course the fervor of fans and students known as the Orange Krush.
Infinite Scale focused the design strategy for the Illini’s home on these three founding principles. The arena itself is modern and unique (at one time one of the only two-edge supported domes in the world) and while it was ready for a renovation, maintaining this strong aesthetic was paramount to the project’s success.
With a new partner contract in place, the Illinois Athletics department was also undergoing a brand refresh and the renovated facility needed to reflect this. The result is a venue with clean lines complemented by the very bold Illini orange and blue and clean, simple typography treatments for a very bold wayfinding signage system. Historical legacy graphics integrated into contemporary designs allow the venue to celebrate its rich history while still maintaining a modern and updated look. The final signage, team branding and sponsor activation package celebrates the team, the venue and the fans in unity.
The new State Farm Center integrates the team from the outside in while enhancing the unique architecture and ultimately celebrating the Orange Krush tradition.
